Assessment Appeals

Please come join Attorney Ken Behrend at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh's Downtown & Business Branch on Thursday, February 23 at 12:15 for a free, in-depth discussion of the 2012 Allegheny County Assessments.

Attorney Behrend will wll discuss and review the steps required for a successful appeal of your real estate assessment. The program will run for approximately 45 minutes. The Downtown & Business Branch is located at 612 Smithfield St.

Allegheny County Property Assessments were released on December 27, 2011. These assessments are appealable. If you wish to appeal, Behrend & Ernsberger, P.C. is the ideal law firm for you. Attorney Kenneth Behrend is a former member of the Board of Assessment and is the author of How to Appeal your Assessment.

The most recent news is that Allegheny County assessments will cause significant tax increases. To wit, residents of Lawrenceville could see their tax bill increase by $1100! Other neighborhoods in Pittsburgh will be similarly hit hard.

Formal property assessment appeals in the city of Pittsburgh, Mt. Oliver, and the Eastern Suburbs must be made by April 2, 2012.

How does a property owner protect his or her rights? The property owner must take a protective appeal before the appeals deadline. A protective appeal is a precautionary appeal filed when someone might otherwise lose the right to appeal and must preserve uncertain or contingent rights. Therefore, if you believe that the upcoming assessment in Allegheny County will adversely affect you, filing a protective appeal is the first step to preserve your rights.

If you need assistance in appealing your assessment, Attorney Kenneth Behrend and his law firm, Behrend and Ernsberger, P.C. can help protect your rights before the deadline. Call the law firm of Behrend and Ernsberger, P.C. at (412) 391-2515 to preserve your right to appeal the assessment of your property today!
